Oxford, Ohio (November) – The 2020 U.S. Open Beer Championship’s registration has ended and due to weather delays entries may arrive as late as November 4th. The medal winners will be announced on December 6.
“We chose December 6 to honor the patron saint of brewers and coopers, St. Nicholas, ” said Dow Scoggins, Director and Head Beer Server of the U.S. Open. December 6 is St. Nicholas Day.
Due to the impact of the pandemic on the craft brewing industry, brewers can enter two beer free entries.
Scoggins added that the craft brewing industry worldwide is among the many industries hit hard by Covid-19. “It is our hope that by allowing two free beer entries for all brewers who submit, and by announcing medal-winners just prior to the new year, the U.S. Open can help promote breweries as we turn the corner into 2021,” Scoggins said
More than 7,000 beers, representing more than 130 different styles, were judged during the 2019 U.S. Open event, which is the only brewery competition to include licensed breweries and winners of the American Homebrewers Association competition. Last year, breweries spanning the globe from Russia to Rhode Island sent their beers. Winning entries can be seen on the U.S. Open Beer Championships website, at www.USOpenBeer.com.
